I have always been fascinated by printmaking techniques, especially etching. I enjoy the etching process for its endless possibilities and its unpredictability. The surprise effects, the problem-solving, the experimental aspects of it. I like the texture, the materiality of printed-paper. I like the viscosity of etching ink to the extent that I have made prints the basic material with which I work.

Having produced prints for many years, I have accumulated hundreds and I began to manipulate them, to cut them, fold them, stretch them, shrink them, wrinkle them. Starting to work with layers, colors and, at times, three dimensions liberated me from the frustration of never being fully satisfied with the final image and flatness of my prints.

My work is of one of precision, of laborious discipline, of slow patience, of rigorous attention. My process is both aleatory and, at the same time ordered, creating a tension between these opposing dynamics. Everything is hand-made, sometimes mechanically, sometimes obsessively.

Working in series of imagery, size and procedures, gives me a controlled freedom. Parting from a certain elemental motif, I develop infinite variations and repetitions. My work aspires to be an experience of stillness and calm, to appeal to primordial emotions and to create an intimate aesthetic encounter.
